Abstract

Genograms are graphic-visual tools used to represent family history and identify transgenerational patterns. The use of genogram creation applications makes it possible to create and edit these family maps, offering various visualization, editing and customization possibilities. This exploratory-descriptive qualitative study investigated the representation of LGBTQIAPN+ identities in genogram creation apps. To this end, a scoping review was carried out, based on the criteria of Arksey and O'Malley (2005). After searching the internet for “free family genogram creation apps” and then applying inclusion and exclusion criteria using a flowchart based on the PRISMA model, three apps were selected (Family Album, Edraw Max and GenoPro). Using Bardin's (2011) content analysis, the data was categorized based on the criteria of Usability of the tool, Representation of LGBTQIAPN+ identities and Presence of editable fields for entering other information. The limitation of LGBTQIAPN+ representations in the apps analyzed was evident, as none of them had specific symbols that covered all the identities described in the acronym. There is a lack of standardized neutral symbols that take into account sexual and gender diversity and contribute to a more inclusive practice in systemic family therapy.
